Twenty-one council seats up for grabs as election called

THE race for seats on Rotherham Borough Council officially got under way today.

The council announced its Notice for Election with seats in all 21 wards in the borough up for grabs this May.

Nominations can now be put forward for a single seat in each borough council ward.

Nomination packs are available from the offices of the Returning Officer in the Electoral Services Office at the Civic Building, Rotherham.

They must be returned to the Returning Officer by no later than 12 noon on Thursday, April 8.

Residents are also reminded that to be eligible to vote they must have completed an application form.

Anyone new to the area, or who has changed address or personal details can still vote if they return the necessary form to the Electoral Registration Officer by Tuesday, April 20.

New applications to vote by proxy–using a person you have appointed to vote on your behalf– must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Tuesday, April 27.

If the election is contested it will be held on Thursday, May 6, with the count, by Rotherham Borough Council, being held at Magna.
