Tributes to 'inspirational' teacher

A PRIMARY school head teacher who died this week after a long illness has been described as “an inspiration” and a “fabulous colleague.”

Alan Staton, head of St Ann's Junior and Infant School, died peacefully on Sunday aged 48.

He had been at the school for over 25 years as a teacher, deputy head and head and staff said he was a well loved and respected man who had had a positive impact on many children's lives over the years.

Deputy head Lee Rowan said: “Alan was a fabulous colleague and friend and will be sorely missed.  

“His vision and leadership of the school was instrumental in St Ann’s achieving its status as a good school in our recent inspection.  

“He was immensely proud of the positive ethos of the school and was passionate about ensuring children had a rich, fun curriculum which included lots of visits, visitors and residential experiences.”

Teacher and friend Micky Skjold said: “Alan had a brilliant sense of humour.

“This served him well in the demanding challenges he faced as a head teacher on a daily basis.”

Chairman of governors Sue Mallinder described Mr Staton as “an inspiration to thousands of children.”

She added: “He worked so hard, helping and guiding our children to be the best they could be, regardless of where they came from or how long they stayed with us.  

“Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Alan will know that his passing is a great loss not only to the school, but to everyone who knew him.”
