Tributes as teenager dies after birthday party

AN 18-year-old girl collapsed and died just hours after leaving her birthday party.

Mum of one Amy Louise Houghton died in the arms of her boyfriend early on Sunday morning after partying with friends and family at the Albert Club at Christchurch Road, Wath.

Ms Houghton, of Melton Avenue, Brampton Bierlow, was at her grandmother’s house—just a few doors away from the club—watching television with her boyfriend after the party when she collapsed at around 3.10am.

She was taken to Barnsley General Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

This week, an inquest was adjourned at Sheffield’s Medico Legal Centre but the cause of the former Wath Comprehensive School pupil’s sudden death remained unexplained.

A spokesman for Barnsley Coroner’s Office said that a postmortem had proved inconclusive and toxicology tests were being carried out.

Tributes to Amy have now been posted on a Facebook site called R.I.P. Amy Houghton... Won’t be Forgotten.
