Trial date set for Sunnyside motorist accused of killing front seat passenger

A TRIAL date has been set for a motorist accused of killing a front seat passenger while drink-driving.

Thomas Edgar (27), of Fern Court, Sunnyside, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday) accused of causing the death of Jason Maxfield by careless driving while under the influence of drink.

Mr Maxfield (31) was a front seat passenger in a Volkswagen Polo which crashed on Bawtry Road, Brecks, at about 10.50pm on December 21 last year.

He was taken to Rotherham Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Edgar is accused of driving the car with 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath — more than twice the drink-drive limit.

He did not enter a plea at Tuesday’s hearing and is due to stand trial on September 6 next year.

Edgar was released on bail and is next due to appear at court on December 14.
