Travellers on Herringthorpe Playing Fields — days before Rotherham Show

The land is used as the main car park for the two-day event, which is the largest free-entry show in the north.

Half a dozen caravans gained entry to the fields in Sunday (1), reportedly from gates on Middle Lane South.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were liaising with Rotherham Borough Council about what action to take.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the force was called on Sunday evening about the matter.

RMBC said the caravans are expected to leave tomorrow.
