Town masterplan held up by flyover problems

COUNCIL officials say a long-awaited blueprint for the future of Mexborough is “in the final stages of production” but has been held up by the sorry state of the town’s crumbling flyover.

The Mexborough Futures masterplan will build on a public consultation held between last November and January to map out priority projects.

But its publication has been delayed after engineers found the Greens Way fly-over was rotting away, meaning it will have to be restored or demolished — a project expected to take up to 18 months.

A DMBC spokesperson said: “The masterplan is in the final stages of production but has been delayed by the Greens Way fly-over closure and the potential implications this may have for the plan, which need to be worked through with the residents and businesses of Mexborough.

“The Mexborough Futures masterplan will provide a range of projects aimed at making a real difference for the future of Mexborough.

“We are determined to create a masterplan which will have a significant beneficial impact, with regeneration schemes that we can put forward when differing investment funds and schemes are available.”
