Town centre flooding protection work given green light

A £2.2 MILLION project to protect the River Don from flooding in Rotherham town centre has been approved.

The Holmes Tail Goit scheme — between Riverside House and New York Stadium — will pump 3,000 litres per second out of the river.

Rotherham Borough Council’s planners approved designs drawn up by authority engineers for the pumping station.

The project includes an electric sub station, a free-standing jib crane, control kiosk and stand-by generator.
