A Rotherham Borough Council spokeswoman said: “To enable the race to pass by safely, spectators and local residents are also being advised that there will be parking restrictions on the route itself.

“If you require alternative nearby parking, please ensure that you park your vehicle safely, consider local residents and make sure that there are no restrictions in place.”

There’s still time to get involved in welcoming the tour — residents who want to join in with either land art or best-dressed village entries can find out more at Le Tour De Yorkshire website.

Damien Wilson, the council’s strategic director for regeneration and environment, said: “This year is the first time a significant part of the Tour de Yorkshire route has come to Rotherham and it’s a fantastic opportunity for the borough to showcase some of our beautiful scenery — and of course a warm South Yorkshire welcome for the cyclists and spectators.

“We hope that residents will get into the spirit of the event, come along if they can, and above all, enjoy themselves!”
