Top cop's International Women's Day plea to call out discrimination

SOUTH Yorkshire’s first female chief constable spoke of the need to remove barriers preventing women applying for for senior roles.

International Women’s Day has the theme of #BreakTheBias in order to level the playing field.

Chief Constable Lauren Poultney (pictured) said: “It requires a commitment from us all to actively call out discrimination and bias against women every time we see it.

“Looking around the force, we are incredibly lucky to have a number of successful female officers and staff, many in positions that may be traditionally considered ‘male’ roles.

“As the first female Chief Constable to lead South Yorkshire Police, I am acutely aware of the importance of continuing to remove barriers that may prevent women from applying for senior roles.

“There has been lots of progress in the right direction, but there is much more to be done to truly break the bias.”
