Top cop in talks over Dearne Valley crime

SOUTH Yorkshire Police chief Meredydd Hughes discussed crime issues with concerned residents in the Dearne Valley this week.

Chf Con Hughes went along to the Crime and Safety Group meeting in Bolton-on-Dearne on Monday, organised by the local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

He said: “I feel it’s essential that I understand in detail the concerns of those who call the area their home, and work with residents and partners to identify policing priorities.

“I am pleased with the outstanding performance of the police in Barnsley with crime being at its lowest in 21 years.

“There has also been a significant reduction in crimes reported throughout the Dearne area with almost 400 less victims of crime since 12 months ago.”

The public meeting, at Willowcroft on Dearne Road, was also attended by residents and councillors.

The next will take place at Heather Court, on Carr Field Lane in Bolton-on-Dearne on May 24 at 6pm.
