Time running out to sign up to scheme helping people with health complaints back to work

AN employment trial set up to help people living with a physical or mental health condition get back into work or stay there, is closing its books to new participants next week.

Working Win supports people with mild to moderate conditions, including stress, anxiety, autism, dyslexia or issues with walking, to get into and stay in work.

But the deadline to sign up is next Thursday.

Dr Russell Brynes, GP and mental health lead for the Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said the scheme helped with confidence, interview prep and addresses health adjustment needs with employers.

“Being out of work can impact people’s confidence, making them feel less employable,” Dr Brynes added.

“There’s lots of stigma around health conditions and feeling comfortable to disclose them to an employer and the thought of rejection also affects people wanting to look for work.”

One woman with Crohn’s Disease who benefited from the trial said she had felt “treated as an individual” by her Workin Win coach and her health had improved after she took part.

A man from Maltby who joined Working win after a history of back problems, believing he was “unemployable”, said he was now back at work, which had “changed my life”.

The trial is open to anyone aged 18 and over and is registered with a GP.

Drop-in sessions are also being held in the library at Riverside House next Monday, October 28 from 4pm to 7pm and Tuesday, October 29, from 10am to 3pm.

Those attending should bring their NI and NHS numbers with them.
