That’s the call to Rotherham and Dearne Valley community groups from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, which has £500,000 to give out in shares of up to £10,000 each.

The Coalfields Community Investment Programme (CCIP) is open to applications from groups which provide a social impact and have a positive impact on former mining towns and villages.

Applications need to be in by next Friday, September 14.

CRT head of operations, Andy Lock, said: “As austerity measures continue, it is increasingly important that these initiatives are supported and that they have access to the funds that they need to continue to deliver their services. 

“We know that our communities face ongoing challenges and that is why we’d like to encourage any organisation which, as a result of the funding, will have a positive impact on the employment, skills or health of coalfields residents to apply for the Coalfields Community Investment Programme funding. 

“They have absolutely nothing to lose and potentially £10,000 to gain.”
