A VILLAGE cash point has been targeted by thieves for a second time - but police say it's too early to say whether the raids are linked.

The cash machine at Houghton Road's Post Office in Thurnscoe was targeted at around 2.30am last Tuesday by thieves using gas to force entry.

In July, ram-raiders used a digger to rip the cash point from the wall, leaving much of the front wall demolished (pictured above).

In last week's raid "a significant sum of money" was taken from the cash machine and detectives are now investigating, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said.

The suspects are believed to have been wearing all black clothing and may have been wearing balaclavas. They are believed to have left the scene in a black Audi A4 estate, said the spokeswoman.

Det Insp Mark Monteiro said: “This is the second incident of this nature at this location in recent months, though the methods used last time were different.

“It’s too early to say at this stage whether the incidents are linked but we’ve had detectives at the scene conducting thorough enquiries and scouring CCTV footage in a bid to identify those involved.

“Those enquiries are ongoing and I’d urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact police.”

Anyone with information contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 52 of November 20.
