Thurcroft Cancer Fund hands out £48,000 donations

REPRESENTATIVES from ten organisations offering support for cancer patients welcomed a share of £48,000 thanks to funds raised through a charity shop.

The trustees of Thurcroft Cancer Fund, which has been up and running for seven years, presented the money to the charities at a recent event at the Gordon Bennett Hall at Thurcroft.

The collective amount has been raised over the last 12 months solely through proceeds from the shop on Green Arbour Road.

And thanks to this year’s efforts, £15,000 of the money has been used to purchase a scanner for the blood department at Rotherham General Hospital.

In total, the charity has now raised almost £350,000 during its seven-year history.

Secretary Mick Mosley said: “All of the people involved are volunteers so the only money we have to spend is on essentials like rent.

“We would like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work in the shop as well as all the generous people who donate their unwanted goods to us.
