South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue investigators have this afternoon said the fire was caused deliberately.

Five fire engines were called to the scene at Foster’s Garden Centre and its petrol station on Doncaster Road last night (Tuesday).

Crews were called just before 9pm and were at the scene for four hours.

Around 25 firefighters tackled the blaze and residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said a storage building near to the garden centre, around 40 metres by 20 metres, was well alight when crews arrived.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire Service said: “We have the cause of the fire down as deliberate.”

South Yorkshire POlice has been contacted for a comment.
