Thrybergh body identified six weeks on

Police have finally identified the body of a man found in Rotherham almost six weeks after it was found.

He has been named as 82-year-old Peter Fell from Doncaster whose body was discovered near Thrybergh Country Park on March 14. 

South Yorkshire Police want to find any relatives of the man found dead on the piece of farmland last month.

DNA evidence finally confirmed that the body was 82-year-old Mr Fell, who is believed to be from the Scotch Springs Lane area of Stainton, Doncaster, and was reported missing in September of last year.

Mr Fell was known to be a keen walker and user of public transport and in later life he often visited local beauty spots throughout the region.

His neighbours reported him missing in September, which led to extensive enquires in the weeks and months following his disappearance.

However Mr Fell was not located and officers now believe that he had died shortly after he was reported missing.

Following a postmortem, it was concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the his death.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: "He worked at Maltby Colliery until around 1980 when he retired.

“Mr Fell is believed to have survived his only sibling and officers have been trying to trace his relatives since his disappearance."
