ALMOST three-quarters of people in Rotherham eligible for a Covid-19 vaccine have been given both doses, according to the latest figures.

Rotherham NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is now preparing for autumn flu jabs and coronavirus booster jabs, said a total of 180,159 people in the borough had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine - and of that number, 161,538 had received a second.

Sue Cassin, chief nurse for the CCG, said: “Our vaccination progress is still going really well in Rotherham and we’re now concentrating on getting people in the younger age groups the vaccine as well as pregnant women.

“We are trying to offer as many walk-in vaccine sessions as possible as well as planning for the flu and Covid-19 booster jabs later this year, but we’re still waiting to hear on whether will be delivering these at the same time.

“I want to see as many people vaccinated and protected as possible.”

The CCG said they were also arranging extra vaccine training for NHS staff who would be vaccinating people in the younger age groups.

Ms Cassin added that trying to get more people vaccinated over the summer holidays had been difficult but that the number left unvaccinated was getting smaller and smaller.

Two more vaccine walk-in sessions are planned to take place this weekend on Saturday at St Ann’s Rotherham Leisure Centre and Rawmarsh Customer Service Centre.
