THREE people remain in hospital after the car they were travelling in became attached to a HGV following a collision on the M1 yesterday (Tuesday).

Police were called to the collision between the car and the lorry on the M1 southbound between J34 Meadowhall and J33 Catcliffe at around 2.30pm.

"Whilst travelling along the M1, a car collided with a HGV and became attached to the HGV’s safety bar," said a spokeswoman from South Yorkshire Police.

"Three people travelling in the car were taken to hospital where they remain in a stable condition. Enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the collision."

Two lanes were closed for around two-and-a-half hours due to the incident, said a Highways England spokesperson.
