Three escape bungalow blaze

THREE people escaped a fire at their bungalow after being alerted to the danger by their smoke alarms.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Melbourne Avenue, Aston, at 4.35pm yesterday and arrived to find the roof well alight.

Around 15 firefighters from stations at Aston Park, Darnall and Mansfield Road, Sheffield, battled the blaze for more than four hours.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the flames but the property suffered severe fire damage throughout.

The occupants were all unharmed.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical wiring fault.

A fire service spokesman said: “We have support services operated through the British Red Cross and the occupants of the bungalow will be offered support through that service.

“It was quite clear that they would not be able to return to their home following the blaze.”
