Thomas Rotherham student's £15,000 boost

A COLLEGE student is celebrating after securing a national scholarship worth £15,000. Alex Abel, an accountancy, business and maths student at Thomas Rotherham College has been awarded a place on Kaplan's national Accountancy Scholarship.

Alex Abel, an accountancy, business and maths student at Thomas Rotherham College has been awarded a place on Kaplan's national Accountancy Scholarship.

Kaplan Financial provides accountancy and financial training as well as home study and on-line learning for thousands of students across the country.

Alex will receive full Association of Accounting Technicians tuition followed by his choice of advanced professional accountancy training completely free of charge.

He said: "The scholarship has enabled me a greater opportunity towards attaining a successful, prosperous and lucrative career."

In addition, Ariane Simmons, also a student at TRC, has been awarded a place at Kaplan's four-day summer school in August.

Alex and Ariane were two of only five students in Yorkshire that were short-listed to participate in interviews for the scholarship.

Brian Culleton, apprenticeship co-ordinator of Kaplan Financial, said: "Kaplan's Scholarship Programme and summer schools provide young people with a fantastic opportunity to progress a career in business accountancy.

“It's a fantastic opportunity and they will do everyone proud. Both Alex and Ariane are a credit to TRC.”
