Third arrest after New Year’s Day murder in East Dene

Detectives investigating the death of a man found in Rotherham on New Year's Day have made a third arrest.

DETECTIVES investigating the death of a man found in East Dene in the early hours of New Year’s Day have made a third arrest.

Police attended the scene on Doncaster Road at about 1.20am on Saturday after the man’s body was found unconscious in the street. 

The man — who has not yet been formally identified — was later pronounced dead at the scene. 

Officers also attended Badsley Moor Lane in relation to an incident of public disorder. 

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “A 23-year-old man from Rotherham has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

“On Saturday afternoon, a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder in London. They have been released under investigation while the investigation continues. 

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
