Cardiovascular disease is among the main causes of death and disability in the borough and stopping the habit has been identified as the best thing smokers can do to protect their hearts.

Cllr David Roche, Rotherham Borough Council’s Cabinet member for public health, said: “Smokers are three to four times more likely to quit with the help of Yorkshire Smokefree or their local NHS stop smoking service than willpower alone.

“I would like to remind smokers that they are not alone and urge smokers to get support to quit and keep their hearts healthier.”
