Thieves dash boy's go-kart dreams

BRAZEN thieves dashed the dreams of a boy racer when they stole a go-kart from outside his home.

Mitchell Hannaby's £700 machine was snatched after it was parked up on a trailer at the rear of the property in Dinnington.

The 13-year-old was left devastated after the go-kart was taken from the trailer which was dragged over a wall in the back garden on Swinston Hill onto a car park area on nearby High Nook.

Two JB karts were on the trailer, owned by his uncle, but one was recovered after the thieves were disturbed by a neighbour who heard them trying to start the engine.

But they made off with Mitchell's kart, two Honda GX160 engines and a blue bag containing Maxxis wet weather tyres.

Two racing suits, boots and helmets were also stolen.

The theft happened around 3.30 am last Friday while Mitchell and his family were asleep and they did not hear anything.

Mitchell, a pupil from Dinnington Comprehensive School, and his uncle Mark Collinson have been regular racers at go-kart tracks.

But thieves deprived Mitchell of going racing during the school half-term holiday this week.

The family are now offering a £50 reward to help catch the thieves.
