These boots are made for raising money!

FIVE fantastic fundraisers laced up their walking boots to trek 150 miles in six days to raise cash for a cause close to their hearts.

Adam Nicholson, director of Wath-based business PA Entertainments, rounded up his business partner Phil Cooper and their family members Julie Maycock, Mark Shaw and Ann Sowden to take on the coast-to-coast walk from Blackpool to Bridlington.

Adam said he liked to organise some sort of fundraising event each year to raise money for a different charity as a way of his business being able to give back.

“We decided to do this year’s challenge for The Alzheimer’s Society because there was a couple of us on the team who have lost family members through it,” he said.

“It’s always good to choose charities that are close to our hearts and we’ve done a lot over the last couple of years to support different charities, but this one means a little bit more because of family.”

After starting out on April 1, the team reached  Bridlington on Tuesday afternoon, April 6,, bagging £4,000 for their chosen charity in the process.

Adam said: “We’re certainly not trained athletes which is why we chose a walk that would be really challenging.

“We’ve all been training here and there when we can, but you can never fully prepare yourself for every aspect of such a trek.

“The start of the walk felt like a real adventure, but day three was by far the toughest because of the varied amount of hilly terrain we encountered.

“It was a really gruelling challenge, not only physically, but mentally, too.”

Adam described the team surpassing the final fundraising target as a fantastic achievement.

He added: “We had been posting our journey on our social media channels and some people even made the choice to donate twice.

“Seeing the donations come flooding in while we were walking really kept us all going and we cannot thank everyone enough for their support.”
