Ten deaths this week as covid numbers rise

COVID inpatient numbers at Rotherham Hospital have risen again this week — and ten people have died.

A spokesperson for The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said as of Wednesday morning, 59 inpatients were in hospital who had tested positive for coronavirus — up five from last week — and one of whom was in critical care.

The hospital has seen ten new Covid-19 deaths within the past week, taking the total number to 611 since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 2,845 patients have been treated at the hospital for the virus and 2,081 were safely discharged.

The borough’s infection rate has also increased and as of August 12, was at 396.3 per 100,000 people — up on the previous week’s figure of 377.

Rotherham also remains above the UK national average of 294.7.
