Teenage crash victim named

POLICE have named the teenager who died when the car she was in collided head-on with a lorry.

Eighteen-year-old Melissa Bladen, from Great Houghton, suffered fatal injuries in the smash in Barnsley on Wednesday.

She was the front seat passenger in a black Renault Clio being driven by a 45-year-old woman, who sustained life-threatening injuries and is being treated at Barnsley General Hospital.

Police said the motorist appeared to lose control and crossed the carriageway on Moor Lane, Brierley, as it travelled towards Hemsworth.

The vehicle veered into the path of a white lorry going in the opposite direction and both women were trapped inside after the smash.

The lorry driver, a 63-year-old Bradford man, was unhurt.

Officers have appealed for anyone who saw the 8.10am incident or either vehicle before the crash to call 0114 220 2020 quoting incident number 198 of February 16.
