STUDENTS  were put to the test when they were asked to design a camera and accessories.

Youngsters from Brinsworth Comprehensive School, Aston Comprehensive School and Oakwood Technology College took part in the event organised by NAMTEC, the National Metals Technology Centre, in Rotherham, where they were challenged to produce a camera and present it to a judging panel.

Helen Arthur from NAMTEC said: "This was a hugely exciting challenge and gave the students the opportunity to learn about rapid manufacturing techniques, then actually to put them into practice.

"There were some excellent designs produced, which made it difficult to pick a winner.  "The aim of the day was to give students an insight into the exciting world of design and technology in the manufacturing sector and to inspire them about the opportunities that lie in engineering as a future career."

The event was supported by RAMP (Rapid Manufacturing Programme) which is funded by Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund.
