Teachers' strike action called off

A STRIKE planned for today by teachers at a Rotherham secondary school has been suspended after agreement was reached over job losses.

The NUT union called off a walkout at Swinton Community School after reaching a settlement on Wednesday.

Ian Stevenson, NUT regional secretary, said : “We are pleased that after a period of intensive negotiation it has been possible to agree a constructive way forward, avoiding any compulsory redundancies.”

NUT members had staged two previous 24-hour strikes.

Eight jobs were originally threatened but the main issue shifted to the future of a special needs coordinator.
