Switch ‘flicked’ for cinema go-ahead

HOUSING plans at Maltby’s old cinema have been given the green light by Rotherham Council.

Applicant Gulbhar Hussain has permission for a pair of four-bedroom houses and six apartments at the Muglet Lane site, empty since the building was destroyed by fire in 2013.

Maltby Town Council supported the proposals but raised concerns about lighting in relation to anti-social behaviour in Coronation Park.

The land was occupied by a picture house from the late 1920s, becoming a social club and bingo hall in the 70s.
