Suspended sentence for disqualified driver who assaulted medical staff

A DISQUALIFIED driver who assaulted two paramedics on Christmas Day has been handed a suspended prison sentence and a court bill of more than £400 — including £200 in compensation to the victims.

Patrick Doherty (51) assaulted the two medical staff last December in Sheffield.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday (20) that Doherty, of Princess Street, Hoyland Common, was also disqualified from driving at the time.

Doherty, who admitted two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, was sentenced to nine weeks in prison suspended for 16 months and ordered to carry our 120 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay £100 in compensation to each paramedic, plus £85 in costs and a victim surcharge of £128.
