The North Anston dad worked at Acres Hill Primary School in Sheffield during the summer term after taking a nine-month break from working in schools, when he worked for a leisure centre.

“I’d been teaching in permanent roles since I left university 12 years ago,” he said.

“However, the demands of teaching combined with having a young family left me feeling I needed a break.”

Steven was nominated for the award by fellow teachers, schools he has worked in and consultants at PK Education, and took 55 per cent of the votes among the four South Yorkshire finalists.

“I was really happy to win the award,” he said.

“It has rounded off an excellent experience as a supply teacher.”

Steven is now set to take up a permanent, full-time role Acres Hill in September.
