Supermarket reopens as ram-raid investigation continues

A SUPERMARKET which was damaged in an attempted ram-raid by masked men has reopened this morning (Tuesday).

The Aldi store, on Barnsley Road, Goldthorpe, reopened to customers this morning at 8am following the incident on Sunday.

They then crashed a silver Nissan X-Trail 4x4 into the building in an attempt to dislodge the cash machine.

After several unsuccessful attempts, the frustrated raiders set fire to the vehicle before running from the area empty handed.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Dearne and Adwick had spent around 40 minutes at the scene.
