Ajmal Puliqqal (27), manager of Sprouts Supermarket on Wellgate, said his black Volkswagen Golf was stolen between 10pm last Tuesday (9) and 9am the following day.

Mr Puliqqal said his 16-reg plate Golf GTD (below) had been parked overnight in the store’s secured car park.

“Somebody during the night has broken the gate using some sort of machinery to cut the gate open,” he said.

“There were two other vehicles parked in there and they also tried to get into a van.”

The father-of-one was alerted to the theft by a colleague as they opened the store.

Mr Puliqqal believes the car thief had used some sort of technology to gain access to the keyless car, which was worth around £18,000.
