Sunnyside drink-driver admits killing passenger in Christmas crash

A MOTORIST who was more than twice the drink-drive limit has admitted killing a front seat passenger in a crash days before Christmas last year.

Thomas Edgar (27), of Fern Court, Sunnyside, admitted at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday (Monday) to causing the death of Jason Maxfield by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Mr Maxfield (31) was a front seat passenger in a Volkswagen Polo which crashed on Bawtry Road, Brecks, at about 10.50pm on December 21 last year.

The passenger was taken to Rotherham Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Edgar had 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath — more than twice the drink-drive limit.

He was released on bail and is due to be sentenced on January 22.
