Students' Trickii Twister game picks up REMAP disabled award

A BOARD game designed by four Rotherham students has picked up an award.

Trickii Twister, which was invented by Maltby Academy Year 10 students Leigh Roberts, Martha Gregory, Darcie Lacey and Casey Turner, has been judged the best entry which could be used by the disabled at a Business Education Partnership event in North Yorkshire.

There are versions of the game for one or two players and it helps develop hand-eye co-ordination by challenging players to guid a spinner around obstacles and jumps.

The award was presented by REMAP, which adapts and donates specialist equipment tailor-made by volunteers for disabled people.

Chris Gilding, chairman of REMAP’s York and District panel, said: “We had decided to become part of the event and sponsored an award for the first time.

“It’s a huge event and we were among a judging panel of about 40 or 50. We decided that the girls’ entry was the best of those we saw for our category.

“They presented it to us very well and we were impressed by how they had used the academy’s links with the nearby special school.”

The game won three national prizes at the Big Bang Fair earlier this year.
