Stop and searches in Mexborough to tackle organised crime

POLICE stopped and searched 12 people in Mexborough on Tuesday as efforts to stamp out organised crime in the town continued.

Officers also carried out a warrant under the misuse of drugs act as they continued their work on Operation Fortify.

Det Ins Steve Smith, who heads up the Fortify team, said: “Tuesday was another busy day for my team. They are out there, on the ground listening to the local community and acting on information that is passed to them.

“My appeal to you — the residents and business owners who care about Mexborough — is this: you know who the people committing the crimes are, you know where the drugs, weapons and cash are. You need to share this information with us. We can help make your neighbourhood a safer place to be.
