Stolen cash machine “dragged along road” by van after supermarket ram-raid

OFFICERS in Rotherham are appealing for information after a stolen cash machine was dragged along the road by a van before being abandoned following a ram-raid at a supermarket in Whiston.

It was reported that a transit van had been used to force entry into the Co-op store on Worrygoose Lane just after 3am yesterday morning.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “A cash machine was removed from the store and the suspects are believed to have left the area heading towards Thurcroft.

“It is believed the cash machine was dragged along the road before being found abandoned a short time later. The van was also later recovered.

“It is thought the suspects may have got into a dark coloured car, before leaving the scene in the direction of Thurcroft.

“Officers are keen to hear from anybody who may have information that can help the investigation.

“Did you hear anything? Or could you have CCTV footage that could help?”
