Sting in the tale as wasp-plagued Denaby resident learns of two-week wait for help

A COUNCIL tenant plagued by wasps was told he faced a two-week wait for the issue to be looked into.

Ray Jones (pictured), of Old Denaby, said dozens of the flying pests had buzzed around his kitchen before flopping to the floor and dying.

His son had sprayed a wasps nest in his garden but this failed to solve the problem, Mr Jones said.

And when he called Doncaster Council last week and asked for them to take a look, the local authority said he would have to wait until the end of next week for an appointment.

“They said I can’t get an appointment until August 23,” Mr Jones said.

“There are already dozens of wasps which have come in, flown around and died.”

Drew Oxley, Doncaster Council’s head of trading services, said the delay was unavoidable.

“There has been a rise in wasp numbers over the summer due to the hot weather and this has led to an increase in the requests we receive for our pest control services,” he said.

“We are working through them as quickly as possible and we ask that residents bear with us during this particularly busy time.”
