Still chance to win community cash

COMMUNITY projects still have the chance to snap up part of a £15,000 pot to be given away by the Advertiser.

We teamed up with the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings to support small groups across the district — and so far we have handed out around £11,500.

That means our Cash For The Community initiative, which provides vital money for local groups that deserve our support in reducing crime and helping those vulnerable to crime, still has £3,500 up for grabs.

Advertiser editor Andrew Mosley said: “Often groups working hard to provide diversionary activities for those who may otherwise commit crime are struggling for funds and need money to simply stage events or just to pay the bills.

“Those who could benefit may be a small football club or a group dedicated to boosting their community or a voluntary group putting on events through the school holidays or in the evenings.

“Groups and projects to have benefited so far include Ferham Festival, Canklow Rainbow Kids Club, a speed watch in Waverley, a lantern walk, summer schools, the Eastwood Let’s Play Outside project and Winterhill School’s Big Pond scheme.

“We desperately want to give this cash to worthwhile causes and hopefully, when the money runs out, we will then be able to announce a similar follow-up project.”

Groups can apply for a slice of the Cash For The Community cash to a maximum of £1,000 each.

All you have to do is fill in a simple application form which can be found at here under the Cash For The Community section and tell us why you need the money. A panel will go through each application.

Community groups must be non-profit making and the projects seeking cash need to fit in with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s priorities of protecting vulnerable people, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, and treating people fairly.

Each group that gets a grant will be featured in the paper to highlight what it does and how the money will help.
