Steve Holbrook: funny, moving and fascinating

SCEPTIC Jessica Fogarty went along to a performance by top medium Steve Holbrook. Here's how she got on.

ALTHOUGH  familiar with Steve's work, I had never attended one of his clairvoyant nights, nor had I ever experienced any work by a medium or made contact with the spirit world.

Greeting his guests at the door was a nice, personal touch, yet still, I was one of those sceptical attendees who headed for the back corner of the hotel suite just in case anything "spooky" happened.

Steve began the evening with an introduction of how his career began and familiarised himself with the audience.

A show of hands revealed around half of the audience had attended a night with Steve before and the other half were new to the medium experience.

Steve joked of the three types of people that come to his shows - the ones who want to be contacted by a loved one who sit at the front watching intently, the ones who don't believe who look straight at him thinking "talk to me if you dare," and the ones that sit at the back terrified, hoping that he won't make contact with them. Admittedly, I was the latter.

The show began, and within the first five minutes, the entire audience were holding back the tears. Readings included messages from parents, grandparents, children and even old school friends.

However, it's not all serious.

Steve could host a second show as a comedian, he is the only entertainer I have seen who can make an audience laugh and cry in the same night.

Although there is not enough time to give readings to every single person in the audience, no one seemed disappointed by the night.

In short, Steve was host to a great show, but very moving - so don't forget the tissues.

What the audience thought . . .

"After losing my husband, I received a comforting message from Steve Holbrook. He gave me accurate dates and personal messages that only my husband and I knew of.

"Steve gave me a message from my father, who passed away last year. He warned me that I needed to be strong this year, as it was going to be a tough year ahead.

"He was right, this year has been a devastating year, from personal issues within the family to my husband being diagnosed with a brain tumour; I have been through a lot.

"Hearing the message from my Dad made me determined to get through things and be strong for my family."
