Steroid suppliers given suspended sentences

TWO men who supplied performance-enhancing drugs have been given suspended jail sentences.

Naseer Ahmed (35), of Renishaw Avenue, Rotherham, and Nabeel Kurshid (34), of Weetwood Road, Rotherham, were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday (14) for offences relating to anabolic steroids — a class C drug.

Anabolic steroids are presciption-only medicines that are sometimes taken without medical advice to increase muscle mass and improve athletic performance.

They can only be sold by pharmacists with a prescription.

Kurshid had admitted at a previous hearing to supplying anabolic steroids from his muscle and fitness supplement store Nutrition Power, on Attercliffe Road, Sheffield, in December 2015.

He was given a 20-week jail sentence, suspended for a year, and ordered to do 50 hours of unpaid work.

Ahmed admitted at a previous hearing to possession and possession with intent to supply a class C drug — anabolic steroids.

He was given a two-year jail term which was suspended for two years and was ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work.

A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing, which will determine how much Ahmed and Kurshid made from the operation, will be held on November 9.
