Stand-off after burglary suspect takes refuge on Brecks pub rooftop

EMERGENCY services were called to the scene of a rooftop stand-off that lasted for three hours at a Beefeater pub in Rotherham this morning.

Police were called at 4am following reports of a break-in at the Bay Tree Restaurant on Brecks Crescent.

Residents reported seeing at least five police cars, a fire engine and an ambulance response vehicle after the suspect took refuge on the pitched roof of the nearby Brecks Beefeater on Bawtry Road, where police spoke to him from a flat section of the roof.

Bawtry Road was closed towards Wickersley to allow the emergency services to work safely.

The man was eventually removed from the roof and detained by police.
