Special guest at Mexborough group's Christmas party

THERE was a jovial special guest for a befriending group’s Christmas party — but it wasn’t Father Christmas.

Instead, the guest of honour as Mexborough b:Friend hosted their first Christmas party was Cllr George Derx, Civic Mayor of Doncaster.

Group organiser Mike Niles said: “We had a Christmas buffet, dancing and some fizz.

“Guests enjoyed some stand-up comedy and a visit by sixth form students from Don Valley Academy, who sang festive classics and distributed Christmas gifts.

“Our charity aims to support people in the community that are isolated and experience loneliness and guests enjoyed party games, a festive spread and gifts to take away.

“The Civic Mayor chatted for two hours with guests and took part in the games, including ‘Pin the Nose on Santa’, also making a speech commending the fantastic work the charity is carrying out in the area and across Doncaster.”
