South Yorkshire police launch sky cops Twitter page

SOUTH Yorkshire Police are using Twitter to keep people informed about their air operations.

People who want to know what the helicopter is doing when it is overhead can now tweet @SYP_AirOps for information to find out.

Helen Scothern, head of South Yorkshire police’s air operations unit, said: “Many people associate the sight and sound of the helicopter with car chases and criminals on the run, thanks mainly to police shows on TV.

“However, the pilots and observers play a vital role in reducing anti-social behaviour, gathering intelligence and locating vulnerable missing people, as well as apprehending suspects on the run.”
