ROTHERHAM hero Sarad Yousaf has been honoured by the police after he went to the aid of an officer who was being attacked.
Sarad (27), of Eastwood, Rotherham, was pulling into the drive of his home when he saw the police offcer being attacked by a man, who had originally been reported hitting himself in the head with a bottle.
Sarad, who has been presented with a certificate of commendation by the police, helped restrain the man before other officers arrived.
He said: “I don't really think of my actions as being out of the ordinary as, for me, it was simply my instinct to do what I did.
Charles Perryman, chairman of South Yorkshire Police Authority, said: "Sarad is a fantastic ambassador for the local community and he is fully deserving of the commendation, having gone above and beyond to help a local police officer in trouble."
