South Yorkshire OAPs' travel passes 'safe'

TRANSPORT bosses have reassured older passengers that they do not face changes to their concessionary travel passes .

The South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive says that its West Yorkshire counterpart’s decision to alter its concessionary rail passes system for senior citizens had raised concerns about implications for South Yorkshire passengers.

But a spokesman for the SYPTE confirmed that nochanges were planned and that  South Yorkshire residents with a senior citizen concessionary pass would still be able to travel free of charge on direct Northern Rail services after 0900 on Mondays to Fridays, and at any time on weekends, on all rail services between stations in South Yorkshire, and to and from South Yorkshire stations across the boundary into West Yorkshire.

SYPTE Principal Public Transport Manger, Roy Mitchell, said: “There is absolutely no truth in the rumours that South Yorkshire senior citizens concessionary pass holders will have to start paying to travel for local journeys, or for direct journeys into West Yorkshire, providing they do not travel before 0900 Monday to Friday, and we are pleased that this concession continues to be offered.”
