South Yorkshire crime at 11-year low

RECORDED crime is at its lowest for 11 years, new figures for South Yorkshire reveal.

There were 8,000 fewer offences—a total of 101,212—for the year ending June than in the previous 12 months.

Violence, vehicle crime and criminal damage have seen significant reductions with burglary and drug crime also falling.

Deputy Chf Con Bob Dyson said: “Crime is down 35 per cent in the last four years, that’s equivalent to a reduction in over 56,000 offences.

“To put this in perspective, that number of victims would exceed capacity at a Don Valley Stadium rock concert.

“We are committed to keeping crime as low as possible and determined to provide the highest standard of policing in South Yorkshire.”
