Sounds of the summer from Rotherham Music Service

MUSICALLY-talented youngsters across Rotherham are rounding off the school year this week with a Summer Prom concert.

The annual Rotherham Music Service Junior Summer Prom Concert at Rotherham College on Friday evening will feature a total of over 100 performers aged from seven and up who form the Junior and Intermediate Rotherham Music Service ensembles.

The groups taking part are the Junior Brass Band, the Monday and Tuesday Junior Strings, the Sinfonia Strings, Guitar Ensembles and the Chantry Band.

The Summer Prom concert will include well-known classical melodies as well as popular film, television and show tunes, is part of a series of summer concerts organised by Rotherham Council’s Music Service.

At an earlier event on Sunday, June 14, the Rotherham Schools Youth Brass Band took part at the Ireland Colliery Battle of the Bands Entertainment contest and was awarded second place in the Training Band section.

Head of the Rotherham Music Service, Deborah Findley, said it had been an excellent year for the service and for the Rotherham Schools Youth Brass Band, in particular.

She added: “These events provide a valuable showcase for all the hard work and musical talent of our students across Rotherham.

“We are very proud of the achievements of these young musicians.”

Tickets for tonight’s concert are £4 with concessions at £3, and are available from the Rotherham Music Service on 01709 334005
