Sofas and a BMW destroyed by arsonists in five separate attacks

SOFAS and a car were among the items destroyed in five deliberate fires overnight.

Firefighters from Rotherham station were called to Grosvenor Road, Eastwood, at 8.20pm yesterday, after two sofas were set alight.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said firefighters tackled the blaze for around 20 minutes.

A crew from Dearne Community Station spent 20 minutes tackling a grass fire on Adwick Road, Mexborough, at 7.40pm.

Firefighters from Rotherham station were called at 10.55pm to a straw fire on Flanderwell Lane, Sunnyside, which firefighters tackled for around half-an-hour.

Firefighters from Maltby responded to a fire on Morrell Street, Maltby at 2.05am today (Wednesday).

A BMW was destroyed in the fire which firefighters spent 25 minutes extinguishing.

A crew from Dearne Community Station was called to Biscay Way, Wath, at 2.15pm to tackle a rubbish fire.

All of the fires were started deliberately, the spokeswoman said.
