Smoke damage to Thurnscoe flats after sofa set on fire

ARSONISTS torched a sofa dumped in a Thurnscoe street last night (Wednesday) and caused smoke damage to nearby flats.

Firefighters from Dearne station were called to Marlborough Close at 11.40pm to deal with the fire, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

“A sofa was on fire which was outside, next door to some flats,” she said.

“Some smoke damage was caused to nearby flats which had their windows open.

“All persons were accounted for and no-one was injured.

“The fire was started deliberately.”

Crews left the scene at 12.30am, she added.
